Description:
The Europe Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) seeks a paid research intern for fall 2008. The CSIS Europe Program, directed by Julianne Smith, is a leading U.S. center for European affairs offering a variety of activities that keep senior policymakers and corporate executives in the United States informed about significant developments in Europe. The Europe Program's fall research agenda will include a focus on the following: the future of NATO, Turkey's relationship with both the EU and the U.S., and transatlantic cooperation on energy and climate issues. This is a full-time position.

Candidates for the position must have at least a B.A. in international relations, political science, or related field, with a strong background in European and/or EU-related issues (familiarity with NATO and European security issues a plus, but not required). Preference will be given to applicants with strong language skills in at least one European language (particular need for French, German, Spanish speakers). Research or managerial/administrative office experience is also a plus, but not required. Successful applicants will also demonstrate excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to work independently and multitask.

Responsibilities will include: - Assisting with ongoing Europe Program research and short-term projects as specified by the Program Director - Assisting in the organization and execution of Europe Program events, ranging from small group meetings to multi-day conferences - Managing Program Director’s calendar and handling background research and preparation for media interviews and briefings - Daily monitoring of European and U.S. news media regarding developments in European and transatlantic events
